This very popular concert in the Cool & Classic series at Kenmore Uniting Church is returning on Sunday, 24th May at 2 pm, with six of the Conservatorium’s most talented and advanced singers.
The students chosen offer a varied programme of favourite solos, duets and choruses from operas such as Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, to Donizetti’s comic opera Don Pasquale, as well as popular musical theatre choices like The Sound of Music and Jekyll and Hyde.
There are three talented sopranos: Honor Nicholson, a dramatic soprano who has been described as possessing a “once in a century voice” and won several awards; Victoria Evans, a classical soprano in her third year of study, extensively involved in choirs, orchestras, musicals, and operas; and Maltese born and raised Gabrielle Mizzi who regularly performs at cultural events at Brisbane city Hall and Government House.
They are complemented by rising star mezzo-soprano Scarlett Smith, who has been awarded the 2026 Griffith University Brighter Futures Scholarship.
Making their marks are two outstanding young male singers. 20 year old tenor Anthony Van Stam performed recently at the Lord Mayor’s Concert in the Brisbane City Hall alongside international star Rosario La Spina. Baritone Nicholas Massouras last year won two major Griffith University Prizes and also performed in masterclasses with international artists.
